The Brief:
Mayer-Johnson is the leading provider of symbol-adapted special education software used to assist individuals with speech, language and learning disabilities. These solutions are designed to help individuals who have complex communication and learning needs participate in the home, classroom and community. With an online store running on the Magento ecommerce platform, there are a multitude of responsibilities required to maintain fresh content, educate new visitors and existing customers about products and services, notify them about special promotions and sales, and entice visitors into becoming customers.

The Solution:
As a full-time member of the web marketing team, I used my diverse range of abilities to coordinate efforts on both the design and development related aspects of maintaining the website. The team and I have devised several ways of improving efficiencies in the development process along with increasing the speed and simplicity of content staging and deployment. We undertook a complete overhaul of the user interface site-wide, upgrading the code-base to more current web standards, using more Ajax, less Flash, and CSS3 where possible — while maintaining graceful degradation in older non-standards compliant browsers. By producing previously outsourced interactive product demos in-house, I created a unified design standard and better frameworks for managing such content — at a tremendous cost savings for the company.
