The Brief:
For over 25 years, DynaVox is the leading provider of speech-generating devices for individuals with speech disabilities due to stroke, autism, cerebral palsy, ALS, and other disabilities. Their mission is to enable individuals of all ages to develop a greater quality of life through communication, self-expression and independence. The website, running on a custom-built ASP.NET based content management system, is designed to provide quick access to comprehensive information for patients, care providers, and existing users of their devices.

The Solution:
As a full-time member of the web marketing team, I used my diverse range of abilities to coordinate efforts on both the design and development related aspects of maintaining the website. The team and I have devised several ways of improving efficiencies in the development process along with increasing the speed and simplicity of content staging and deployment. We undertook a complete overhaul of the user interface site-wide, upgrading the code-base to more current web standards, using more Ajax, less Flash, and CSS3 where possible — while maintaining graceful degradation in older non-standards compliant browsers. By producing previously outsourced interactive product demos in-house, I created a unified design standard and better frameworks for managing such content — at a tremendous cost savings for the company.
